Disaster Management
Disasters are inevitable, so it's important we understand and learn how to mitigate, prepare, respond and ultimately recover. It is important to note that SMCOAD is not a first responder, but provides assistance with preparation, recovery, and mitigation through a network of information and resources.
The Four Phases of DisasterMitigation: pre-emptive activities aimed at reducing the physical effects of a disaster. Addressing hazard risk
Preparedness: advance activities which improve personal and community disaster response. Organizing and educating volunteers Response: actions taken as the disaster occurs. Providing support and services to directly impacted areas Recovery: activities aimed at returning the community to its pre-disaster condition. Advocating for disaster victims |
